Day 2: Choose either half day Panoramic OR Historical City Tour
Panoramic City Tour: On this 3 hour tour your private English speaking guide will take you to see the sights of the "Lower City". First you will visit the Itapagipe Peninsular where you can appreciate the traditional life of the local fishermen and visit the Bonfim Church, an important pilgrimage site. Next you will visit the Monserrat district with its panoramic view of the city, and finally the Mercado Modelo, the best place to buy local goods. After the market visit you will return to your hotel.
Historical City Tour: This tour with private English speaking guide is a good orientation for the upper part of the city, showing the old and new. You will start in the modern suburb of Barra at the mouth of the Bay with its famous lighthouse and make your way slowly by car to the old historical section of town. The Pelourinho area of Salvador has the largest and best preserved complex of colonial architecture in the Americas. You will visit the church of São Francisco with it's exuberant gold-leafed Baroque interior and the Pelourinho square, the heart of the old town before returning to your hotel.
Your afternoon is free to explore the area independently or relax on the beach. Spend the night at our standard hotel in Salvador da Bahia.

Standard hotels and lodges are clean, comfortable and well located. They usually have en-suite bathrooms with hot water and towels, and some in-room facilities like a TV and phone. Depending on the location, many will have wi-fi at least in the lobby areas if not in the rooms. They are often small, family-run establishments, and are tastefully decorated and full of charm. In most cases rooms will not be very big and although staff are friendly and helpful, their English may not be perfect. Our standard accommodation would usually be classified locally as 3* hostels or 2.5* – 3* hotels.
Our Feature Hotel Villa Bahia in their own words: “Nestled in the heart of Pelourinho, the historic quarter of the UNESCO World Heritage listed city; the Villa is comprised of two adjoining 17th and 18th century colonial homes, remnants of the Portuguese era.
Overlooking the colourful facades of the district, the 17 rooms have been carefully renovated to preserve their original spirit. The result is enticing: an authentic colonial atmosphere, enhanced by two garden courtyards, a refreshing plunge pool and a panoramic terrace.
Your host, Bruno Guinard, a Frenchman who has called Bahia home for 30 years, has proudly implemented genuine local participation and sustainable development practices within the Villa Bahia.”
