About our Director - Heather MacBrayne
Heather fell in love with South America on her first visit in 2001. After studying history at the University of Montevideo for 6 months, she headed off on her first trip around the continent, taking in whale watching in Peninsular Valdes, trekking in Ushuaia, climbing the Villarrica Volcano in Pucon and crossing the Atacama desert in 4x4. After a quick trip home to complete her degree in History and Hispanic studies, she went straight back out for more.
For the next 6 years, Heather continued to explore the continent from her home in Cusco, Peru, updating information for the Footprint Handbooks and Rough Guides while running the Cusco branch of the South American Explorers Club.
After returning to the UK, Heather worked for a round-the-world travel company, before setting up Discover South America in 2012.
With genuine in-depth knowledge and a broad and varied contact base in South America, Heather is perfectly placed to organise any type of trip to South America.
Senior Travel Consultant - Jackie Jones
Jackie has worked in the travel industry for the last 20 years and is lucky enough to have seen a lot of the world.
In 2012 she spent some time in Rio and the surrounding beaches and couldn’t wait to return, so in 2014 she took a 3 month sabbatical to travel around South America, trekking in the Andes and the Amazon, exploring the Salt Flats in Bolivia, the Atacama Desert and Northern Argentina, before arriving in Brazil for the World Cup and finally Colombia for some more trekking to the lost city and visiting the beautiful beaches of the Northern Coast. Her next stop is Patagonia.
Jackie started her career working for STA Travel and then worked for a round the world travel company before joining Discover South America in 2017
“South America is full of amazing adventures, I hope to help you plan yours”
Travel Consultant - Stephanie Kitchin
Steph first went to Peru in 2005 to work as a tour leader for a large UK travel company. The Inca trail had been a long held dream and it didn’t disappoint, she was soon hooked. One season turned into several and she spent the next 5 years leading tours in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile and Central America as well as traveling independently between work contracts.
Steph loves hiking, whether it’s a multi day world famous hike like the Torres del Paine circuit or a day hike away from the crowds in Cusco. Her most recent travels took her to the Galapagos islands and mainland Ecuador. Another highlight of Steph’s travels was Guyana, and being immersed in an almost untouched pocket of the Amazon.
Steph worked for a local company in Cusco before setting up her own specialist travel company, Into Latin America which she brought back to the UK. Into Latin America and Discover South America joined forces in 2018, with Steph bringing a wealth of local knowledge and experience to the DSA team.
