Budget Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama

Day 1: Arrive Uyuni & Salt Flats Tour

You will be met upon arrival in Uyuni and meet your guide and group for the three day/ two night overland trip from Uyuni to San Pedro de Atacama. The scenery is unlike any other on earth as the flats expand for miles and miles of dazzling pentagons of crystalline salt. After visiting the train graveyard and the village of Colchani, you will enter the salt flats themselves. You will make a stop for lunch at the only salt hotel actually within the salt flats (which no longer operates as a hotel due to restrictions to protect the salt flats). After lunch you will continue to Isla Pescado or Incawasi. Incawasi is the largest of a group of islands within the Salt Flats, the isolated ecosystem being largely made up of cacti measuring up to six metres in height. You will have time to take pictures before continuing to the Galaxies Cave, where calcified and petrified algae create an eerie effect. After the visit you will continue to your basic hostel where dinner will be waiting for you.
Spend the night in a basic hostel in the village of Agua Quisa.

Day 2: Agua Quisa to Laguna Colorada via Siloli Desert

After breakfast at your hotel you will set off towards the south crossing the small Chiguana desert, surrounded by volcanoes. Most are dormant however the semi active “Ollague” (5840m) which you can see from the lookout often has steam clouds above it. As you continue your journey southwards, you will pass through the Siloli Desert and visit some of the five minor lagoons where you can observe flamingos and other birds such as Andean Guls. The last place of interest you will visit en-route is the Laguna Colorada, covering an area of 60 km2, and located at 4,278 meters above sea level. It is characterised by the red tone of its waters. It is inhabited by flocks of flamingos of three species: tokoko, with red plumage; chururu, with whitish plumage, and jututu, with pink plumage. The scenery is exceptionally beautiful at these heights, set off by the impressive redness of the Lagoon.
Spend the night at a basic mountain shelter in Eduardo Avaroa National Park.

Day 3: Sol de Mañana Geysers, Green Lagoon and travel to San Pedro de Atacama (Chile)

You will set off very early this morning and after a one hour drive you will arrive at the Sol de Mañana Geysers; fumaroles and volcanic craters form a spectacular combination in this one square kilometre area, with the fumaroles emiting spouts of mixed water and superheated steam which can reach up to 100 metres in height. Further down the road you will stop at some hot springs where you can bath in the naturally heated water. You will also have breakfast here. The last stop before crossing the border into Chile is Laguna Verde, which resembles a giant green emerald. From here you can see the impressive beauty of Licancahur Volcano, at 5,865 meters above sea level. The special brightness of the green waters of the lake in the afternoon is dazzling. After crossing the border into Chile you will have a shared transfer to your hotel.

Day 4: Free morning and afternoon Moon Valley Tour

After a free morning to relax at your hotel, you will be picked up in the early afternoon for your Moon Valley tour. You will be driven to Moon Valley for spectacular views and to watch the snow-capped peaks changing colour as the sun sets in the desert – an impressive sight! You will return to San Pedro in time for dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Calama airport & depart

At the appropriate time you will have a shared transfer from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama to Calama Airport.
