Day 1: Guided tour of Santa Cruz Highlands and Giant Tortoises

Upon arrival at Baltra airport in the Galapagos, you will be met by an English speaking guide. On the way from the airport to your hotel you will visit the highlands of Santa Cruz with a naturalist guide as your escort. The Highlands offer a lush contrast to the beaches and arid lowlands found elsewhere on the island. A stop at the twin craters Los Gemelos is one of the first sights on your highlands tour. A visit to the Moreno family farm, Las Primicias, provides the opportunity to marvel at the celebrated Giant Galapagos Tortoise roaming in its natural habitat. Next you will have the chance to explore a cavernous underground Lava Tunnel where you can view one of the geological wonders of the volcanic islands. You will also be able to explore some of the "backroads" of Santa Cruz on the way to Puerto Ayora, where you will be taken to your hotel at the end of your tour.

Spend the night at our standard hotel in Puerto Ayora.

Day 2: Full day guided group tour to uninhabited island (hiking/snorkelling) - North Seymour

Today you will join a group tour to an uninhabited Island. Note that you will visit either Bartolome, North Seymour, South Plaza, OR Santa Fe depending on availability. This is a sample itinerary. North Seymour Island is a natural haven for some of the most sought after residents in the Galapagos Islands, the Blue-Footed Boobie. A nature trail meanders leisurely through large colonies of nesting Frigate birds and Blue-Footed Boobies. Depending on the time of year, this is an excellent place to witness the thrilling mating rituals these birds are famous for. You can also intimately observe the fascinating dynamics between a mother and its chick. Just off shore you can often witness the original Galapagos surf club members, Sea Lions riding the crashing waves all the way into shore. This tour also stops at isolated Bachas beach for a refreshing snorkel in the tepid waters. A side trip to a small lagoon provides an opportunity to see feeding Flamingos. Snorkel equipment (mask, snorkel & fins) is included.

Spend the night at our standard hotel in Puerto Ayora.

Day 3: Free Time Suggestions: Charles Darwin Station or Tortuga Bay

See the Galapagos Islands through the eyes of the legendary explorer, Charles Darwin. Learn the history of the islands and see endemic and native flora and fauna, including Land Iguanas and the ever-popular Giant Tortoise. The station is the hub of conservation research in the Galapagos and has a wealth of information about the fragile and distinctive ecosystems you will visit in this island chain. You can conclude your visit of the station with a stop at a lava rock beach overlooking Academy Bay and the Island of Santa Fe.  Tortuga Bay is located about 2.5 kms from Puerto Ayora via an improved trail of rock and boardwalk surrounded by cacti, palo santo trees, and matasarno trees. The walk in the sun is rewarded with a spectacular white sand beach stretching across the southern coast of Santa Cruz. Tortuga Bay beach is famous for its expansive and pristine shoreline that gradually descends into the sparkling Pacific Ocean. It's a great place to try your hand at surfing (be careful) or just relax and soak in the sun with the Marine Iguanas. A snorkel in the beautiful lagoons reveals the full richness of the Galapagos marine life. You can see colorful reef fish, white-tip sharks, rays and the beach's namesake, sea turtles. You should take time to walk through the Marine Iguana sanctuary where you might also catch a glimpse of Blue-Footed Boobies and Frigate birds along the shore. Kayaks are available to rent for USD20 at the beach (subject to availability).

Spend the night at our standard hotel in Puerto Ayora.

Day 4: Full day guided tour to uninhabited island (hiking/snorkelling) - Bartolome

Today you will join a group tour to an uninhabited Island. Note that you will visit either Bartolome, North Seymour, South Plaza, OR Santa Fe depending on availability. This is a sample itinerary. Located two hours north of Santa Cruz by boat, Bartolome Island is home to some of the most breathtaking panoramas in the Galapagos as well as many of the islands' most sought after inhabitants. This tour provides a great opportunity to view striking volcanic rock formations in shades of shimmering black, red, and green. From the summit of the hike, enjoy one of the most recognized landmarks in the Galapagos - Pinnacle Rock, an impressive lava structure that towers high above the water. Descend for an up close look at the Pinnacle and the astonishing array of wildlife that calls this island home. Galapagos penguins, friendly sea lions, sea turtles and a huge variety of fish make this a fantastic snorkeling spot for nature enthusiasts. As you walk along the spectacular crescent shaped pink and white sand beach, you'll follow the footsteps of generations of green sea turtles who return each year to lay eggs at their ancestral home.

Spend the night at our standard hotel in Puerto Ayora.

Standard hotels and lodges are clean, comfortable and well located. They have en-suite bathrooms with hot water and towels, and some in-room facilities like a TV and phone. Depending on the location, many will have wi-fi at least in the lobby areas if not in the rooms. They are often small, locally-run establishments, and are tastefully decorated and full of charm. You can expect hotel staff to speak basic English. Our standard accommodation is usually classified locally as 3*.

It goes without saying that Superior hotels are also clean, comfortable and well located.  They offer that extra bit of comfort and a wider range of facilities (such as heating, hair dryers, cable TV, wifi in rooms, restaurant and sometimes room service). Rooms should be of a good size and you will have an en-suite bathroom with towels and some toiletries.  Staff will normally speak good English.
